Texas’ music heritage industry surrounds, encompasses, and extols the world-class grandeur of Texas music artists and art forms. There’s been music heritage tourism in the State of Texas for over 50 years. Organized international, national and regional music related events have flourished in Texas for decades. Local dance halls, rodeos and music genre festivals have advanced Texas’ international acclaim. Public and private music museums, music archives and music libraries are premiere resources for the world.

The Janis Joplin Museum is in Port Arthur, the Jimmy Dean Museum is in Plainview, Gruene Hall is in New Braunfels, the Roy Orbison Museum is in Wink, the Selena Museum is in Corpus, the Buddy Holly Center is in Lubbock, the Arnett Cobb Texas Jazz Archives is in Houston, the Longhorn Ballroom is in Dallas, the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and Museum is in San Benito, there’s Luckenbach and Kerrville, and on, and on and on. We’re an industry that owns or controls vast music collections, music museums, archives, and libraries; dance halls, honky-tonks and saloons; the titles Texas Music History© and Texas Museum of Music History (by federal award); and the federal trade marks Texas Music Hall of Fame® and Texas Music History Trail®.

In 2022, the Who’s Who of Texas music history gathered to establish the “music heritage tourism industry” for the State of Texas.* A hub-and-spoke network program, from award winning plans previously submitted to the Texas Legislature over the past 20 years, was utilized to define distinguished stakeholders. These music history stakeholders chartered and ratified, with an inauguration of Commissioners, a federally structured, Chamber of Commerce business format to administer the new industry. The new Texas Music Hall of Fame® Commission is on track to take the reins for music heritage tourism in 2024.

Music Heritage Tourism programming was introduced in 2002 to the House Committee on State, Federal and International Relations as the Texas Music History Preservation Alliance (MAMHTexas Plan). The plan was formally recognized in the 84th Texas Legislature and a Commemorative Bill passed in the 85th. The main purpose of the Texas Music Hall of Fame® Commission is to serve as administrators for the Official Texas Music History Trail® Program (a member’s only Association). With over 40 years in existence and 20 years of legislative wrangling, this new Commission of Texas Music History Trail® patrons is historical!

We just need YOU!

We’re on our way to establishing an entire network of music history venues and adventures under a Texas Music Hall of Fame® banner. The federal government had previously sanctioned the project in a Texas Museum of Music History Visitor’s Center award. The legislature mandated it, state agencies developed the frame work, and the federal government approved the defining proposal in 2012. The Commission has plans to establish official hub sites, touring routes and visitor centers all over Texas to coalesce the new industry. Major corporate sponsors have committed support (Texas Monthly made us international in 2023), and others are planning regional and national advertising tie-ins for 2024.

When the Beyonces, Kelly Clarksons and LeAnn Rimes become music history, they’ll be honored to know your efforts established their stakeholders’ position in a brand new industry. So whether you’re Country or Western, Classical or Jazz, Gospel or Blues, Conjunto or Tejano, Pop or Hip Hop, Rock and Roll, or any combination thereof, Texas music has a place for you to enjoy its fantastic music history. The new Commission with its heritage tourism capabilities is hereby recognized as an emerging industry for the State of Texas. The new industry status with a federal authorization, establishes the cornerstone to promote Texas music history as an international tourist destination brand. It’s a done deal…Join Us on the Trail!
